Instilling Company-Wide Strategic Awareness
A multinational’s new in-house learning programme required a strong appreciation of the critical forces shaping the long-term business environment. The Outsights research programme, run in tandem with an internal research team, focused on four major themes both critical to the company and areas in which the knowledge gap was greatest: technology, social change, global governance and intellectual property rights.
Global In-Depth Research
As a precursor to its major scenario project on the future of Japan, Outsights and its associates carried out 100 in-depth interviews in Asia, Europe and the United States. The interviews identified a key set of issues and challenges facing Japan, diverse perspectives on Japan’s place in the world, and provided a databank of material for subsequent publications on the future of Japan.
Uncovering Internal Obstacles to Success
Interviews across the European division of a leading Japanese manufacturer surfaced many of the dilemmas and issues that were facing the company, ensuring that hidden roadblocks were confronted early rather than too late. Participants in the subsequent strategic planning thus obtained a clearer definition of where differences and commonality of opinion lay, whether differences on the outside world or on internal tactical issues.
