constraints, drivers and catalysts for the 21st century
The Strategy Unit in the UK Government's Cabinet Office holds regular lunchtime seminars for senior strategists across Government to introduce new ideas and facilitate networking. Outsights Partner Richard O'Brien was invited to speak on looking through the present to plan for the longer term.
In his presentation, "Constraints, Drivers and Catalysts for the 21st Century", Richard drew upon the Outsights 21 Drivers for the 21st CenturyTM Programme and recent work on the Future of the Global Economy to 2030 to discuss how change and opportunities may emerge from the pressures of today.
Key issues included how future resource constraints could lead to a re-modelling of the economic system; the forces of change coming from science and technology which may re-shape our economic system and way of life; and if any of the current change campaigns will be able to catch the momentum of the moment.
